SVB and You - Working together to protect your identity.

It seems there are more fraudsters perpetuating scams via the internet everyday.  To help keep you safe, we've decided that there is no time like the present to remind you what it takes to access your Online Banking with Scott Valley Bank.  Each and every time you login you'll experience our Multi-factor authentication.  You'll verify your identity to us and we verify our identity to you with your passmark and personalized pass phrase as detailed below.

Multi-Factor Identity Authentication provides the strongest login security available.

To ensure your privacy and the security of your personal information we are using the most innovative and easy-to-use login security available, two-factor, two-way authentication.  This allows us to identify you AND also provides a way for you to verify that you are on the authentic Scott Valley Bank site BEFORE you enter your password.

Two-factor Authentication refers to your password and your computer.  Your computer and your password are both electronically recognized and you are allowed to complete your login.  If you login from a second computer on a regular basis (such as at work and from home) you can set the authentication to accept your login from either computer.  You’ll accomplish this with a simple registration process the first time you login through the second computer.  (You will  be asked your Challenge Questions at this time to allow us to verify your identity since we will not immediately recognize this computer.)  If you login to your Internet Banking from any additional computers that you are using only temporarily, such as at an Internet café, you will be asked to answer your Challenge Questions each time.  You will not indicate that you wish that computer to be recognized in the future.

Two-factor authentication protects you against fraudulent use of your password.  Even if your Password is somehow obtained, another party cannot successfully login without access to your registered computers.

Two-way Authentication:  While two-factor authentication confirms your identify to us, two-way authentication proves our Web site’s identity to you.  To set up your personalized authentication of our website, you will be asked to select a Picture from our library of over 50,000 images.  You’ll see this image whenever you login before you enter your password.  You’ll also be asked to type in a personalized Phrase (which will always be shown with the Picture you have selected). Once you have established your Picture and Phrase, we will always show them to you when we ask for your Password.  As the personalized Picture and Phrase are visual, they are easy for you to notice and to remember.

When you sign on to SVB Online Banking from our website, you will connect directly with the Internet Banking sign-on page with 128 bit Secure Socket Layer (SSL) technology.

When you are within the pages of our Online Banking services, you can verify that your Online Banking session is secure: Check the Uniform Resource Locator (URL) in your Web browser. A secure site is indicated by the letter “s” (for secure) following http. The URL will begin https://

Understanding the how and why of Multi-Factor Identity Authentification and how SVBOnline protects you is a big part of protecting your identity while banking online.

Thank you for taking the time to review this report.
