Recent news reports have warned that skimming devices have been discovered attached to ATM machines.
Skimming devices are a thin metal unit attached to the front of the ATM machine where you insert your card. The skimming device is a mechanism that scans/copies the information on the strip of your card, effectively compromising your ATM/Debit Card number and the PIN (Personal Identifying Number). The felon then remove the device from the ATM machine and can access the ATM/Debit Card numbers & PINs entered while it was attached.
Typically, this only applies to ATM Machines, not the card swipers used when you check out at a store cash register. Always take a second look at any ATM before inserting your card in to see if anything is attached to the card slot.
Inspecting our Scott Valley Bank ATMs is part of our security routine, but we know that you encounter many opportunities to visit ATMs in your daily lives, especially during the busy holiday seasons.
So, be careful. Happy Holidays!
