The FDIC has released a new expanded version of its Electronic Deposit Insurance Estimator, also known as "Online EDIE". With this new version, users can estimate insurance coverage for a wider range of account types. Bank customers can access the new Online EDIE on the FDIC's Web site at www.fdic.gov/edie/

Highlights:

Online EDIE is a user-friendly, interactive Online tool that can help bank customers learn about deposit insurance, estimate insurance coverage on their accounts, and help them determine if their deposit accounts at FDIC-insured institutions are fully insured. EDIE also assists bank employees who answer customer questions about deposit insurance coverage.

The new version of Online EDIE offer new functions requested by consumers and bankers, including the ability to calculate deposit insurance coverage for irrevocable trust and government accounts and the ability to calculate coverage for deposit accounts that mature in 2014 or later.

Online EDIE is designed to enable even the novice computer user to create estimates of their deposit insurance coverage. The "Walk Me Through" format is a step-by-step approach that helps users estimate their coverage by entering information about their accounts at an FDIC-insured institution. The "Calculator" format is an all-inclusive approach that allows users to enter all necessary information on one screen.

Online EDIE generates a printable report clearly showing the amount of insurance coverage for the user's accounts.  

Remember—If the accounts entered into EDIE are not deposits in an FDIC-insured bank, the coverage information provided in the EDIE report does not apply.
